Everything that has changed in Imprint, release by release, with the newest first.

v1.6.0 — October 21, 2026

New

  • Every download now gets its own copy code and every order a licence code, which you can stamp on your PDFs with {copy_id} and {licence_id} or add automatically with Always append the copy code (Basic and Premium, see Copy tracking).
  • The order page has a new Download Log that lists each file's 50 most recent downloads with their time, country, device and copy code (Basic and Premium).
  • Find Order by Code on the Orders page opens the order that a copy code or licence code belongs to (Basic and Premium).
  • The new Tracing marks settings hide each download's copy code on every page and in the file's document properties, even when the visible watermark is off, and can add a small QR code to a corner of every page (Premium, see Tracing marks).
  • The new Leak tracing page tells you whose download a leaked copy of your PDF came from: upload the file you found, and Imprint shows the matching order, the download and how confident the match is (Premium, see Leak tracing).
  • Leak tracing also reads the QR code on the first three pages of a file, so a copy that was printed, scanned, photographed or turned into screenshots can still be traced as long as its QR code is readable.
  • From a lookup or an order, you can draft a takedown notice under the US DMCA or the EU Digital Services Act to ask a website to remove a leaked copy (Premium, see Takedown notices).

Improved

  • New stores start with Always append the copy code and the tracing marks switched on, while existing stores keep them off until they switch them on.
  • A watermark line that is too wide for the page is now set in a smaller font so that it fits, instead of running off the edge of the page.
  • The PDF preview on the product page now shows the tracing marks too, is also available when only the tracing marks are on, and is shown in your language.
  • When your downloads carry tracing marks, the Disable watermark switch on a product now says that its PDFs still get them.
  • The Digital Files checkout block now shows download links only on your customer's own Thank You and Order Status pages. For some orders placed before 2024, the block on the Order Status page can't load the downloads and points your customer to their download email instead.
  • Very large PDFs now have a little more time to be watermarked before the download gives up.

Fixed

  • With First page only switched on, only the first page is stamped now, where before the stamp appeared on every page.
  • The watermark now appears where you placed it and at its full size on every page, including pages of a different size or orientation than the others, rotated pages and cropped pages (such as PDFs exported with bleed). Before, it could come out smaller or out of place on those pages.
  • PDFs with large pages, such as A3, tabloid and posters, now carry their whole watermark, where before it was cut down to a thin sliver.
  • When a PDF can't be stamped, for example because it is very large and takes too long, your customer now sees the usual download error page instead of a server error.
  • After a failed upload, you can now choose another file straight away. Before, every next file was refused until you reloaded the page.

v1.5.0 — October 14, 2026

The Hungarian translation and the email and download fixes below went live early, on October 9.

New

  • Imprint now speaks Hungarian, Greek, Polish and Turkish, in the app, the download emails, the download pages and the checkout block.
  • Send Test Email under Settings → Email replaces "Test Connection" and sends a real email through your own email server to an address you choose, so a server that refuses to deliver is caught before your customers order.
  • A failed order now shows why it failed on its order page, with a Retry button and a link to your email settings.

Improved

  • When your own email server refuses a download email outright, Imprint now marks the order as failed straight away instead of trying again, so the server doesn't start blocking Imprint.
  • Resend Email now works on failed orders, and can't be used while an order is still being processed.
  • The order page now updates by itself while an order is still being processed.
  • Error messages, for example when you reach your plan's product limit, now appear on screen instead of a success message or nothing at all.

Fixed

  • Email link scanners and download managers that only check a download link no longer use up one of your customer's downloads.
  • The Opacity setting under Settings → Watermark now shows the value you saved, where it used to show 25% for 50% and 100% even though your PDFs were always stamped correctly.
  • Security updates.

v1.4.2 — September 27, 2026

Fixed

  • Very large PDFs, of several hundred megabytes, can now be watermarked, and the stamp preview and your customers' downloads no longer fail for them.

v1.4.1 — September 27, 2026

Improved

  • Behind-the-scenes maintenance that keeps Imprint connected to your store, with no change to how you use it.

v1.4.0 — September 26, 2026

New

  • The new {company} watermark variable stamps the company name from the order's billing or shipping address.
  • Custom variables let you stamp up to five values that your customers enter when they order, from a product form field (line item property) or a cart attribute.

Improved

  • When a variable has no value, the watermark now leaves out that part together with its label, instead of stamping an empty gap or the variable's name.
  • Settings → Watermark now points out unknown variables in your template and asks you to fix them before saving.
  • When Shopify asks to erase a customer's data, Imprint now removes their name and email from its records, while their download links keep working.

v1.3.0 — September 24, 2026

New

  • Automatic Fulfillment marks an order's digital items as fulfilled in Shopify as soon as their download links have been delivered, and leaves physical items for you to fulfill.
  • Automatic Fulfillment is on by default, can be turned off under Settings → Orders, and fulfills orders that are on hold in Shopify once the hold is released.
  • After this update, Imprint asks you once to approve the extra permission it needs to fulfill orders.

Improved

  • Products with many variants now show all of them on the product page instead of only the first 50, and you can search variants by name or SKU and filter them by File status.

v1.2.0 — April 26, 2026

Improved

  • Download emails now show your store's real name, and keep it up to date when you rename your store.

Fixed

  • When a customer buys several variants of the same product in one order, they now receive the files of every variant, not just the first one.

v1.1.0 — March 15, 2026

New

  • Imprint is now available in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese: the app follows your Shopify admin language, and the download emails, download pages and checkout block follow your customer's.
  • Display on multiple lines under Settings → Watermark puts each variable of your watermark on its own line.

Improved

  • The Digital Files checkout block keeps checking while downloads are being prepared, and shows a Try Again button if loading takes too long.
  • The checkout block now stays hidden on orders without digital products, and tells customers whose payment is still pending that their downloads will appear once it's complete.

v1.0.0 — January 5, 2026

The first public release of Imprint, with:

  • A unique, secure download link for every customer, emailed as soon as their order is paid.
  • Watermarks stamped onto each PDF the moment it's downloaded, with your choice of position, size, color and opacity, and a preview.
  • Download limits and expiry dates, set for your whole shop or per product, which you can also apply to existing orders.
  • Files attached to a product or to each of its variants, with several files per product on paid plans and many products added at once.
  • The Digital Files checkout block, which shows download buttons on the Thank You and Order Status pages (Basic and Premium).
  • Order tools to resend download emails, reset download counts, extend expiry dates, restrict downloads and sync orders from Shopify.
  • Download links that are revoked automatically when an item is refunded, and restricted when an order is cancelled.
  • Custom SMTP, so download emails are sent from your own address (Basic and Premium).
  • Free, Basic and Premium plans, billed monthly or yearly, with two months free on yearly billing.
